What are the common drywall problems, and how do you fix them?

Do you know that drywall construction has set a new standard for both ceilings and interior walls worldwide? Yes, since the drywall endeavor has multiple benefits over prior construction standards like plaster and lath methods in the aspect of both cost and labor intensity.

Still, drywall is not something flawless. It can also sustain damage because of many reasons, like natural wear and tear or improper installation. Here are some of the common issues for drywall repair. So, let’s delve into the blog to know these issues and how to fix them.

What is drywall construction, and why is it important?

Drywall and plaster are two eminent methods needed while constructing the building’s interior ceilings and walls. Drywall has overtaken the other methods of wall construction because of its usage and popularity. It is highly preferable among the entire U.S. because you can get quick drywall installation at lower labor costs and easy repairs.

Common drywall issues and how to fix them:

  • Screw or nail pops:
One of the common drywall problems is the screw pops that require instant repair. Yes, both the nail and screw pops happen when the screws are not properly secured in the center of the stud and are driven too far into the wall. This usually happens because of the natural contraction and expansion of the stud due to the temperature change. To resolve this issue, make sure to take out the screw properly and install the screw at another point nearby. Also, use drywall tape to refinish the surface.
  • Drywall cracks:
Another common issue that calls for drywall repair is the drywall cracks usually found on the joints or the place where panels meet each other. What is the reason for drywall cracks? Well, most commonly, it is thermal contraction or expansion. So, you need to put fiberglass mesh tape on the top of the crack to help prevent the crack from getting bigger. Afterward, apply the joint compound and tape, which provides refinishing to the surface of the wall.
  • Water damage:
One of the major flaws of drywall is that it can be easily susceptible to water damage, and if not addressed on time, it can result in the excessive growth of mildew and mold, causing serious damage to the wall. One of the best options to cope with this water damage is to completely remove the affected area of the wall or install new drywall in your house.
  • Bigger holes in the drywall:
Sometimes, the reason behind the drywall issues is the accidents themselves. Some accidents may create bigger holes in your drywall, making it look bad. These bigger holes need to be covered up with the joint compound or adhesive tape. For this, you need to first cut out that damaged part. Then, insert a new drywall and use a joint compound to simply clean up the edges. Now let that joint compound get dried, and afterward, sand the wall’s surface to give it a smoother look. Repeat the step twice. Furthermore, apply the drywall tap and prime it to perform the painting process.
  • Corner bead cracks:
Another reason that might be required for the instant repair of the drywall is the steel corner beads. With time, these steel corner beads can usually pop out of place. Once you have exposed the affected areas of the wall, use a hammer and flatten down the corner bead. There are some cases when you might need to re-screw the corner bead. But if the damage to the wall has been sorted, now use the tape and joint compound to refinish the surface.Final thoughts!!

Conclusively, drywall is a durable material, and an improper installation of your drywall can lead to many issues, causing severe damage to the house’s interior. So, it is necessary to consider these issues on time and call a professional to seek out help.
